WRITESTUFFWhen he's not writing and arranging music, playing guitar, bass and singing, Baz runs a little media consulting business that -among other things - publishes digital tools for teaching and arranging music. There's MusicBlanks available to download for free for a limited time, a small workbook that allows musicians and teachers to print out A4 size blank pages of music staff paper, tablature, guitar chord diagrams, and a few SmartTips extra for Musos. These 'blanks' in popular PDF format can be printed at will and used to communicate music information between writers, arrangers and musicians, or between tutors and pupils. Baz is working on 3 new titles for release in mid-to-late 2009: Baz is publishing KILLER CHORDS in 2009. This book differs from other chord diagram encyclopaedias and method books in that the chords are not simply dots on frets, but explained in harmonic detail. It's a must for any guitarist who fakes his or her way through chord shapes without understanding the simple music arithmetic that makes it all work. There's a reason some things sound better than others. It's not all trial and error. And you don't have to read music to understand it. Reading notation won't hurt you as a musician, but it won't make you one either! Coming Summer 2009. |

UPCOMING TITLESPLAYING IN BANDS You study an instrument long and well enough to play music with other musicians but dont' have the first clue about the etiquiette, division of labour, jobs that need doing in support of the band. Or maybe you've been in dozens of bands, and they plateau too early, all the hard work flies out the window. This is part workbook, part tipsheet. If you absorb a chapter every 1-4 weeks, you'll get 10 years of band experience in 6-12 months. WRITING BETTER SONGS Pen, paper, piano (or guitar)...what more do you need? Writing great songs is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. So, my mentor told me. There are so many great records of bad songs that it's often hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Great songs stand the test of time. This workbook focuses on good writing techniques and applies them to songwriting. There are techniques that all good songwriters should know, and exercises that all good songwriters should try. Make your words & music live together. |
